I don't remember a time when I wasn't obsessed with music. I remember getting my allowance from my parents and going to the record store to buy 45s and cassettes. The first album I remember having a profound effect on me was Journey's Escape. Songs like the title track, "Stone in Love" and, of course, "Don't Stop Believin'" take me back to a time of innocence and excitement.
Music is a very powerful part of my life. Music can pump me up, calm me down, make me think, bring me to tears, or make me laugh. A song has the power to bring you to the exact moment when you first heard it. That moment can make you feel many different ways. A world without music is not a world I want to live in.
When I was a little boy, if my parents wanted me to sit still for any length of time, they would put music on the record player. Back then it was Elton John, The Doobie Brothers, Steppenwolf, and Billy Joel. I think those days may have laid the groundwork for me wanting to be on the radio.
Music got me to listen to the radio. I would try to see what far away stations I could pick up. Some nights it would be New York City, Boston, or even St. Louis. I always wanted to be the person playing music and talking about it on the radio.
I am passionate about music knowledge. I love to know about bands, lyrics, why a song was written, and how a band got together. I have been told that I am many people's "phone a friend" if they ever get on that game show.
Music brought me to the radio and there is no place that I would rather be.
